Qurbani 2027 is only a few months of planning away, and booking early is the easiest way to make Eid ul Adha calm rather than rushed. This guide covers when Qurbani falls, the basic rules to keep in mind, how to choose between a lamb, a sheep or a share in a cow, and how booking works with KW Qurbani, the Qurbani service of Kashmir Watan Foodstores in Preston.
What is Qurbani and why do Muslims do it?
Qurbani (also called Udhiyah) is the sacrifice of an animal during Eid ul Adha. It remembers the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (peace be upon him) to give up what he loved most for the sake of Allah, and Allah's mercy in replacing the sacrifice. It is an act of worship, gratitude and sharing, and the meat is traditionally divided between family, relatives and those in need.
When is Qurbani in 2027?
Eid ul Adha falls on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. In 2027 this is expected in mid-May, around 16 May, but the exact day in the UK depends on moon sighting. Qurbani is generally carried out from the day of Eid, after the Eid prayer, until the 12th of Dhul Hijjah. Scholars differ slightly on the final day, so please follow the guidance of your own scholar or masjid.
Because the dates can shift by a day, the safest approach is to book now and let us confirm collection details with you once the dates are announced.
The basic rules to keep in mind
This is a practical overview, not a fatwa. For your own situation, always ask a trusted scholar.
- Who it applies to: Qurbani is considered obligatory for adult Muslims who meet the required financial threshold, and is strongly encouraged for others who are able.
- Suitable animals: sheep, goats, cattle and camels. The animal must reach the minimum age and be healthy.
- Free from clear defects: an animal that is clearly blind, very sick, obviously lame or extremely thin is not suitable.
- Shares: a sheep or lamb counts for one person. A cow can be shared by up to seven people.
- Intention and timing: the Qurbani must be made with the right intention, within the correct days, and carried out according to Islamic guidelines.
Lamb, sheep or cow: which should you choose?
KW Qurbani offers four simple options, so you can match your choice to your family and budget.
Lamb and sheep
A whole lamb or sheep is one Qurbani for one person. It is the most straightforward choice for an individual or a household where each adult wants their own. You can see the options on our Qurbani 2027 products page or go straight to book a sheep Qurbani or book a lamb Qurbani.
Cow (each share)
If you would like to take part in a cow Qurbani without paying for the whole animal, you can book one or more shares, up to seven. This suits individuals, couples and groups of friends or relatives, and you enter a name for each share. Book a cow share here.
Full cow
A full cow covers all seven shares, which is ideal for a family who want to complete their Qurbani together. Please note that cow bookings are available on the 3rd day of Eid, so plan your family arrangements around that.
